Mechanics.You are inquiring about the union at a very
exciting time, as we expand and prepare for the future.

Local 490 was started in 1993. In its short time of existence,
Local 490 has made a distinct mark in the film industry. Across
the country, more and more jobs are becoming union jobs,
benefiting all those who work under union contracts, including
producers and production companies. Although we have made
great strides, there is still much to be done. Each member is a
vital part of the growth and expansion of our Local.

Local 490 Member Financial Obligations

1. Initiation Fee: $500.00

2. Processing Fee: $100.00

3. Work Dues: 3%

4. Per Capita: $55.00

The initiation fee is self-explanatory; it is a one time payment to
become a member of IA Local 490. The processing fee of $100.00
is the what the International charges to process your application.
The Local sends the money with your application to the International.
A person wanting to join may pay $300.00 initially, with an outstanding
balance of $200.00 to be paid in full by the end of the next month after
joining. A member will only be considered in good standing, in other
words able to work as a union member on a union job, if they follow
this plan.

Per Capita is the money charged in order to buy stamps for the union card.
It is a quarterly fee of $45.00. This money goes directly to the International
for the cost of a quarterly stamp and processing there of. One must be current
in their quarterly per capita. If they are more than two months delinquent,
they will not be considered in good standing, and will not be able to work
union jobs.

The work dues are 3% of one's gross wages from each particular job. These
dues go directly to the Local for maintenance of contracts, running the Local
union office, wages of the President, Business Agent, Secretary, Newsletter
production and Web page. Consider it a small fee for professional representation.
